Still Plugging Away

Hello everyone! How is everyone doing? It's hard to believe that the end of the year is already upon us-2025 is just around the corner! I can't say that 2024 was a great year for me personally, as I faced several health issues around March and April, which followed some challenges in 2023 as well. Now, I have regular check-ups and a few other measures in place to keep an eye on my health. Despite these challenges, I was able to create a lot of music. It's clear that 2024 was a tough year for many people due to the economy in this country. But enough of the down talk! I recently released some new music titled "Circumstances Beyond One's Control." I'm excited to announce that there will be a listening party on January 18, 2025. One of my tracks, titled "Positive Energy," reached the number one spot for Funk tracks in Canada. Hey folks, how's it going? Sorry I'm late with this latest podcast-I've been trying to shake off this cold. It has been kicking my butt all week while I'm trying to get things done. I've been watching a lot of YouTube clips featuring bands and musicians, mostly from the '70s and '80s. The exception is a recent band called "Dirty Loops," who are pretty amazing. I will definitely feature a clip of them in the next podcast. On a more somber note, I recently learned that Quincy Jones has passed away at the age of 91. It's truly a loss, but we must celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. His influence was immense, and I remember aspiring to follow in his footsteps when I was younger. The unforgettable theme songs he wrote for classic TV shows like "Ironside" and "Sanford and Son" showcase his talent, not to mention his time as Frank Sinatra's music director-what a powerhouse! If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend watching the documentary "Listen Up: The Life & Times of Quincy Jones." It's a must-watch and might even be available on DVD. Additionally, I stumbled upon an incredible video clip on YouTube featuring the talented bass player TM Stevens. Though he sadly passed away earlier this year, his performance will leave you speechless! You've got to check it out; his mastery of effects, slapping, and even scat singing over the bass is absolutely mesmerizing. Don't miss the chance to experience this musical brilliance! I have to ask myself where does he get the muse to play the stuff he's playing ? He's bloody incredible.
